Terms of Service

Last updated: 3 July 2026

Welcome to ShotSafe. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the ShotSafe software and any related services provided by Brickwork Studio Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”). By purchasing, downloading, or using ShotSafe, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use ShotSafe.

We’ve tried to write these in plain English rather than legalese. Photographers deserve to understand what they’re agreeing to.

About us

ShotSafe is a Mac desktop application developed and sold by Brickwork Studio Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. You can contact us at support@shotsafe.co for any questions about these Terms.

What you’re buying

You’re buying a licence to use ShotSafe - not the software itself. We retain all intellectual property rights to ShotSafe, its code, design, branding, and documentation. Your licence gives you the right to install and use ShotSafe on your Mac(s) under the terms below.

We offer three licence tiers:

  • Founding Member - a lifetime licence for a one-time payment of £200, available to the first 100 customers only. Once we reach 100, this tier closes permanently.

  • Annual subscription - £99 per year, renewing automatically until cancelled.

  • Monthly subscription - £12 per month, renewing automatically until cancelled.

Prices are in GBP. Where required by law, VAT is charged in addition to the listed prices - this is handled automatically at checkout by our payment provider.

Your licence

Each ShotSafe licence covers your personal or business use on the Macs you own or control. You may install ShotSafe on multiple Macs where you’re the primary user (for example, a MacBook Pro on location and a Mac Studio at your studio). You may not:

  • Share your licence key with others

  • Sublicense, sell, or transfer your licence

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code

  • Remove any copyright, trademark, or ownership notices

  • Use ShotSafe to build a competing product

If you breach these conditions, we reserve the right to deactivate your licence.

Subscriptions

Subscription licences (Annual and Monthly) renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel. You can cancel anytime by contacting support@shotsafe.co or through your account with our payment provider.

If you cancel:

  • Your subscription continues until the end of the current billing period

  • After that, your licence is deactivated - the app will no longer work on new projects, but your existing files remain untouched on your drives

  • You can reactivate at any time by renewing

We don’t offer prorated refunds for partially-used subscription periods. See our Refund Policy for more.

Lifetime licences

Founding Member and future lifetime licences (£399, available after the founding tier closes) give you access to ShotSafe for the life of the product on the Mac platform. This includes all future updates within the current major version series.

If we ever make a fundamental architectural change (for example, a native SwiftUI rewrite requiring a separate purchase), we’ll notify existing lifetime licence holders in advance and offer a fair upgrade path.

Updates and support

We release updates to ShotSafe regularly. Updates deliver automatically through the app’s built-in updater. By using ShotSafe, you consent to receiving updates automatically.

We provide support via email at support@shotsafe.co. We aim to respond within two working days, though we’re a small team and complex issues may take longer.

Your data

ShotSafe processes your photographs and metadata locally on your Mac. Your images never touch our servers. Cloud backup, when enabled, uploads directly from your Mac to your own connected cloud account (Dropbox, and - from autumn 2026 - Google Drive and Backblaze B2). We can’t access your images even if we wanted to.

Details of what data we do process, and how, are in our Privacy Policy.

Warranties and limitations

ShotSafe is provided “as is”. We work hard to make it reliable - backup verification, dual-drive redundancy, and continuous testing are core to how we build - but we can’t guarantee the software is free from defects or that it will meet every use case.

We strongly recommend you maintain the 3-2-1 backup principle (three copies, two drives, one in the cloud) regardless of what any single piece of software promises. Your images are irreplaceable; the protection they deserve is not the responsibility of one tool.

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We’re not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages arising from your use of ShotSafe

  • Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you’ve paid for your ShotSafe licence in the twelve months preceding the claim

  • Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud

Termination

You can stop using ShotSafe at any time. If you have a subscription, cancel through your account to stop future charges.

We may terminate your licence if you breach these Terms - particularly the licence restrictions above. If we do, we’ll notify you by email and explain why. You’ll have a chance to remedy the breach where possible.

Termination doesn’t affect any rights or obligations that have already accrued.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be notified by email to your registered address and posted on this page. Continued use of ShotSafe after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved by the courts of England and Wales, though as a consumer you may also have rights to bring claims in your local courts.
