Privacy Policy

Last updated: 26 June 2026

ShotSafe is a macOS application built by Brickwork Studio Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) for professional photographers. We take your privacy seriously, and this policy explains exactly what data ShotSafe touches, where it goes, and what we do - and don’t - do with it.

If you have any questions, get in touch at support@shotsafe.co.

The short version

  • Your photographs never touch our servers. We don’t have any.

  • ShotSafe runs entirely on your Mac and copies files between your own drives and your own cloud accounts.

  • We don’t collect, store, or analyse your images, metadata, or files at any point.

  • The only personal data we hold is what you give us at purchase (name, email, payment details) and basic anonymous analytics on the website.

What ShotSafe does with your files

ShotSafe is a local desktop application. When you use it to back up, organise, cull, or promote your photographs:

  • Files go from your camera card directly to your drives. ShotSafe coordinates the copy, but the files travel between devices you own. They do not pass through any ShotSafe server.

  • Cloud backups go from your Mac directly to your own cloud account (Dropbox, Google Drive, or Backblaze B2). You authenticate with your cloud provider; ShotSafe stores the authentication tokens locally on your Mac and uses them to upload your files to your account. We never see, receive, or store your files on any infrastructure we control.

  • Project records, selections, and ratings are stored locally on your Mac, alongside your images on the drives. They never leave your machine.

We have no access to your photographs. We cannot view them, retrieve them, or recover them on your behalf. They are yours, on your equipment.

Cloud integrations

ShotSafe can connect to the following cloud services if you choose to use them:

  • Dropbox

  • Google Drive

  • Backblaze B2

When you connect a cloud service, ShotSafe stores an authentication token locally on your Mac (in ~/Library/Application Support/ShotSafe/). This token lets the app upload your files to your cloud account on your behalf. You can revoke this access at any time by disconnecting the integration in ShotSafe’s settings, or by revoking ShotSafe’s access from within your cloud provider’s account settings.

Google Drive - Limited Use compliance

ShotSafe’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Specifically:

  • We only use Google Drive access to upload files you have explicitly asked ShotSafe to back up to your Google Drive account.

  • We do not transfer or share data from your Google Drive with any third party for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.

  • We do not use Google user data to train artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

  • We do not allow humans to read your Google Drive data, except as required for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or where you have given us explicit consent for a specific purpose.

What we collect at purchase

If you purchase a ShotSafe licence, our payment processor (Paddle) collects and stores:

  • Your name

  • Your email address

  • Payment information (handled by Paddle’s PCI-compliant systems - we never see your card details)

  • Billing address (for VAT/tax purposes where applicable)

We use this information only to:

  • Deliver your licence key and provide ongoing access

  • Send you receipts and important account updates

  • Provide customer support if you contact us

Paddle acts as the Merchant of Record for ShotSafe purchases. Their privacy policy is available at paddle.com/legal/privacy.

Website analytics

The ShotSafe website (shotsafe.co) uses:

  • Google Analytics (GA4) - to understand how visitors find and use the site

  • Meta Pixel - to measure the effectiveness of advertising and improve our content

These tools collect anonymous, aggregated information about your visit (pages viewed, approximate location, device type, referral source). They do not identify you personally on our website.

You can opt out of analytics tracking by:

  • Using your browser’s “Do Not Track” setting

  • Installing a privacy extension like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger

  • Using browser private/incognito mode

What we don’t do

To be explicit:

  • We don’t sell your data to anyone, ever

  • We don’t share your data with advertisers

  • We don’t use your data - or your photographs - to train AI models

  • We don’t analyse the content of your images

  • We don’t read your file names, EXIF data, or any other metadata for marketing purposes

  • We don’t track what you do inside the ShotSafe application (no in-app analytics, no telemetry, no usage reporting)

Your rights (UK & EU)

Under UK and EU data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you

  • Correct any inaccurate data

  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal record-keeping requirements for purchases)

  • Object to how we process your data

  • Receive your data in a portable format

  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email support@shotsafe.co. We’ll respond within 30 days.

Data retention

  • Purchase records - kept for 7 years as required by UK tax law

  • Email communications - kept for as long as needed to provide support, typically up to 3 years

  • Website analytics - kept according to Google Analytics and Meta Pixel default retention periods (14 months and 13 months respectively)

  • Local data on your Mac - entirely under your control. You can delete it at any time by removing ShotSafe and clearing ~/Library/Application Support/ShotSafe/.

Updates to this policy

If we change this policy in any material way, we’ll update the “Last updated” date at the top and, where the change is significant, notify customers by email. Continued use of ShotSafe after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
